Purpose

Kotaso Co. is a design-forward architectural ceramics firm. We exist to impart meaning into surfaces. We embed art into architecture. Each design represents an exploration of geometric form, a study of the cultural applications of pattern, and an attempt to express the infinite in our lived environment.

Product

From our R&D lab in Abu Dhabi, we fuse artisinal and technological practices to develop prototype tiles and produce limited-series art installations. Our core product lines are made in collaboration with specialized overseas production facilities.

Sustainability

Using local clay bodies in a single, mid-range firing greatly reduces the carbon footprint of a Kotaso Co. product. Tiles produced in the UAE contain Ras al Khamia porcelain, while those produced by manufacturing partners abroad are made almost entirely of local earth. Process

Pushing the boundaries of form and material creates a unique set of manufacturing challenges. We embrace these challenges as our competitive advantage. We forgo mass production in exchange for quality and uniqueness.

Kotaso tiles undergo strict quality control measures to ensure that the design intent is conveyed in every edge, plane, chamfer, and fillet. We select manufacturing processes based on tile geometry and desired performance for the application, not cost effectiveness. This includes high pressure dry pressing for precise dimensional accuracy, hydraulic ram pressing for complex surface geometries, or slip casting for high relief designs.
